PHP 8.2 security support ends 31 December 2026.

Why it matters

PHP is the language WordPress, Drupal and most custom sites run on. Each version gets security fixes for a limited time. PHP 8.2 security support ends on 31 December 2026. PHP 8.1 ended on 31 December 2025 and PHP 7.4 in November 2022.

Running an unsupported PHP version means security problems in PHP itself are no longer fixed. Hosts also retire old versions, sometimes at short notice, which can take a site down on the day.

How we upgrade PHP safely

  1. Check compatibility. We scan your theme, plugins or modules and custom code for anything that breaks on the target PHP version. Nothing on your site is changed.
  2. Fixed price. One price for a written scope within 2 business days.
  3. Fix on staging. Update what has a newer release, patch or replace what does not, and fix custom code.
  4. Switch and test. Change the PHP version on staging and test forms, logins, checkout and admin.
  5. Go live. Backup first, switch the live site, check the error logs, and leave a rollback ready.

Included

  • Compatibility check of theme, plugins or modules and custom code
  • Fixes and updates needed for the new PHP version
  • Testing on staging, live switch and error-log checks
  • A short handover note

Questions we are asked

Which PHP versions are still supported?

At the time of writing, PHP 8.3, 8.4 and 8.5 are supported, and PHP 8.2 receives security fixes only until 31 December 2026. PHP 8.1 ended on 31 December 2025 and PHP 7.4 on 28 November 2022.

How do I find out which PHP version my site uses?

Your hosting control panel usually shows it. In WordPress, Tools then Site Health then Info lists it. In Drupal, the status report under Reports shows it. Or send us the address and we will check.

Why can't my host just switch the version?

Often they can, but older themes, plugins, modules and custom code can break on newer PHP, showing a white screen or 500 errors. We find and fix those on a copy before the switch.

Does a PHP upgrade make my site faster?

Usually yes. Newer PHP versions are generally faster, and the upgrade is a good moment to remove unused plugins and modules.
